Environmental Permitting & Compliance Specialist (OK)

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead Air Permitting Efforts – Prepare, submit, and manage air permit applications (minor source, Title V, and modifications) for new and existing facilities in Oklahoma. Ensure permit conditions are practical and aligned with operational needs.
  • Regulatory Compliance Management – Interpret and apply state (ODEQ) and federal environmental regulations to midstream operations. Monitor changes in air quality rules affecting the industry.
  • Field & Asset Support – Conduct environmental field inspections at processing plants, compressor stations, and gathering facilities; verify compliance with permit conditions and best practices.
  • Program Development – Create and improve compliance tools, templates, and tracking systems tailored to Iron Horse’s operating environment.
  • Collaboration with Operations & Projects – Partner with engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental requirements early in project planning.
  • Agency Interface – Serve as the primary point of contact with ODEQ and EPA for permit applications, inspections, and compliance matters. Negotiate and resolve potential compliance issues.
  • Training & Mentorship – Provide guidance to operations personnel on permit requirements and best practices for environmental compliance.
  • Emergency Response – Participate in spill response planning and drills; be available for on-call incident response when needed. 

Qualifications 

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience – 6+ years of environmental compliance experience in the oil & gas sector, with specific expertise in air permitting in Oklahoma (minor and Title V sources).
  • Knowledge – Strong understanding of ODEQ rules, NSPS, NESHAP, and other applicable regulations. Experience with other environmental media (waste, water) a plus.
  • Skills –
    • Ability to prepare accurate and defensible permit applications and compliance reports.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for agency negotiations and cross-team collaboration.
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and compliance tracking software.
